ساختار گرامری the + comparative adjective + clause + the + comparative adjective + clause و یا the + comparative adjective + the + comparative adjective برای مقایسه تفضیلی از نوع افزایش یا کاهش متناسب به کار میروه. یعنی دو چیز به هم بستکی دارن. چند مثال:
The more expensive the hotel, the better the srvice. هرچی هتلش گرونتر باشه خدماتش بهتره
The sooner we leave, the earlier we will arrive. هرچه زودتر بریم زودتر میرسم
the higher you climb, the colder it gets. هرچی بیشتر صعود کنی هوا سردتر میشه
در ساختار کوتاه تر، بندهای موصولی (clause) ها حذف میشن. مثلاً:
The sooner the better. هرچه زودنر بهتر
the less luggage you have the better هر چی وسائل سفر کمتر داشته باشی بهتره
در مقایسه تفضیلی the...the لغت "the" به معنی "by that much" یا "هر چقدر" میباشد. یک اصطلاح (idiom) معروف هم داریم که ازاین ساختار پیروی میکنه: the more the merrier به این معنی که هرچی افراد بیشتری حضور داشته باشن تفریح و لذت بیشتری خواهیم داشت. ترجمه لغت به لغت این اصطلاح: هرچه بیشتر بهتر.استاد بزگ دیکشنری کمبرج میفرمایند:
the more the merrier
used to say an occasion will be more enjoyable if a lot of people are there:
"Do you mind if I bring a couple of friends to your party?" "Not at all - the more the merrier!" مثال: اشکالی نداره چند تا از دوستامو بیارم تو مهمونی تو؟ اصلاً مشکلی نیست، هر چه بیشتر بهتر!
